From now on the only way you’ll be able to hear the roar of 4 TF-39s clawing their way into the sky is by watching a video. The last active C-5A, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , took its final flight the other day, touching down at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson where it will be stored and most likely scavenged for parts before eventually surrendering to the scrappers.

Video below of her departing Westover ARB in Massachusetts and landing at Davis-Monthan.

Godspeed, you sonorous beast.

Climbing up to the passenger compartment of a C5 is an indelible memory of my time in the Navy. One other is seeing a Sea Dragon inside of a C5 that had its nose and tail open. A massive helicopter inside an even more massive airplane.

I saw them ocassionally landing at and taking off from NASJRB Willow Grove. This video doesn’t properly convey how demonic those engines sound even when throttled down.

Oh yeah. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing it in person a handful of times over the years and it is an incredible sound and feeling.

And how’s the garage situation?

I can’t post photos on the network I’m currently on. If I could, I would be searching the shit out of internet for images of C-5s carrying huge loads.

We should be doing that. POST THE PHOTOS!

In air go-kart drag racing. Come on I know it’s possible. Internet says cargo hold is over 100 feet.

Also, ultimate party bus!

I like the way you think. As long as the karts have cup holders for my drink.

Kinja'd!!!1

So google says it’s 121 feet before the ramps

So.... Bar/party area in the first 20 feet towards the nose. Have the tree just a little further back. Run all the way down to a big mass of foam at the end.

I think this can only end really, really well. Where’s my waiver to sign?

The waiver includes language to absolve Oppo from any consequences of spontaneous barrel roles the pilot may or may not decide to execute based on real or imaginary air hazards. BYO helmet.

Seems reasonable. Just serve drinks in those spill proof kid cups. Because you’ll need them eventually, barrel roll or not.

That’s kinda required. Much of the cargo hold will be allocated for booze storage.

Sounds pretty accurate lol. We could have one of the Planelopnik guys be the co-pilot and (if applicable) engineer too! :D

As for the garage, better than ever!

Perfect. Perhaps we could even use part of the cargo hold for a flying cars and coffee. Call it, “Cars, cocktails, and C-5As”. We could even sell tickets for booze money.

I have a healthy hatred for the C-5. Lived 300 feet under the flight path on Oahu (Rough life, i know) coming in for a landing. The commercial aircraft at all hours you got used to, not the C-5's, those things shook anything right off the walls. Had to replace a few phones back when mounting those to the wall was the cool thing to do. Also all our family pictures are in plexiglass frames instead of real glass too. Real fun on night ops at 4am ... sleeping soundly only to be awoken by a fucking freight train gargling steel bearings while shooting fully automatic weapons plowing through the sky a football field above you

Partially. There are still 50-some C-5s that have been upgrade to the M model that will be around for a good long while.
